The weak point moves with the build.
Construction sites change every week. New access points appear as the build moves, hoarding is relocated, materials change position and subcontractors arrive with different access needs. Security has to move with the project instead of being designed once and left in place.
A typical site can be quiet at 6pm and heavily exposed by 7pm. A new entrance may bypass the camera that covered the old gate. Racking, welfare cabins, skips or temporary structures can also block a sightline that was clear during the first survey.
Construction site security cameras need to follow the site as the build changes. A construction security camera at a temporary gate should cover the approach rather than only the building.
That is why security for construction sites should start with the physical layout and the project phase. The specification should address perimeter control, entry points, lighting, blind spots, plant storage and the periods when the site is unoccupied.
Building construction site security also has to account for unfinished structures and temporary routes that can change from week to week. The same principle applies during handover, when completed areas and temporary compounds may overlap.
One site, several security phases. The right arrangement at groundworks stage may not be the right arrangement when the external works, deliveries and handover routes change.
